Abstract | The Institute for Global Policy advocates that the United Nations General Assembly honor the role originally envisioned for the UN Economic and Social Council, as a mechanism for global economic and financial policy-making, after 63 years of significant marginalization. Articles 57 and 63 of the UN Charter stipulate that the specialized agencies (including the Bretton Woods Institutions – the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund) “shall be brought into relationship” with the UN by entering into agreements to define the terms of the relationship, and that ECOSOC “may coordinate the activities of the specialized agencies through consultation with and recommendations to such agencies.” |
