Member States Discuss Gender Aspects of System-wide Coherence

Member States met on Friday, 16 May 2008, in an informal consultation to discuss the gender aspects of System-wide Coherence.

The meeting was co-chaired by Ambassadors Augustine Mahiga of Tanzania and Paul Kavanagh of Ireland. Several Member States as well as UN agencies working on gender aspects delivered statements.

The Governance Crisis in the Fifth Committee

This analysis explores the premise that there is a governance crisis in the Fifth Committee (Budgetary and Administrative) and is based on conversations with a number of key delegates from the EU, Group of 77, and the US as well as other insiders. In addition, significant dynamics taking place between Member States are described and the issues that will be under discussion in the May session of the Fifth Committee are outlined.

Member States Discuss Governance and Institutional Reform

Member States met on Thursday 17 April 2008 in a closed all-day meeting at the United Nations to discuss System-wide Coherence, and more specifically the issues of Governance and Institutional Reform.

The meeting, divided into a morning and -afternoon session was co-chaired by Ambassadors Augustine Mahiga of Tanzania and Paul Kavanagh of Ireland.

Thematic Debate on Management Reform: Towards a Common Understanding of Management Reform

At the 2005 World Summit, Member States agreed to a number of specific management reform proposals. Some of these have been implemented while others continue to be negotiated in the Fifth Committee (budget and administrative) of the General Assembly. Only the Mandate Review is taking place in a working group rather than the Fifth Committee.
