New Text Released for Intergovernmental Negotiations on Security Council Reform [1]
3 August 2015
On the 31st of July, the President of the General Assembly circulated a new text [2] for the Intergovernmental Negotiations (IGN) on reform of the Security Council. The text, which was developed in light of consultations with Member States over the past several months, is intended to serve as a basis for the negotiations. President Kutesa described the text as a "sound basis" for the next phase of the IGN, emphasizing that it had been developed through an "inclusive and transparent process". In addition to the letter itself, the President also circulated a two part annex document (see part one [3] and part two [4]), which summarized and compiled the input of individual Member States into the consultations.
